Chattanooga gas prices drop nearly 10 cents per gallon last week and other business briefs

Gas prices fall in Chattanooga

Average gasoline prices in Chattanooga have fallen 9.7 cents per gallon in the last week, according to GasBuddy's survey of 170 stations.

The average price reported Monday was $2.96 per gallon, GasBuddy said.

Gas prices are 11.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 98 cents per gallon less than a year ago, according to the company. The national average price of diesel has risen 0.1 cent in the last week and stands at $3.80 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest station in Chattanooga was priced at $2.79 per gallon Sunday, while the most expensive was $3.39 per gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 3.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.53 per gallon Monday, GasBuddy said.


Whirlpool adds apprentice to training program

Cleveland State Community College has welcomed a second apprentice from Whirlpool Corp. to the Prototype Model Maker Registered Apprenticeship Program, according to a news release.

Patou Libbey began his apprenticeship in May, the release said. During the course of his four-year commitment, Libbey will be working in the Model Shop at Whirlpool to gain 8,000 hours of on-the-job learning and completing a minimum of 576 hours of related academic credits at Cleveland State Community College in the Advanced Technologies Department. Cleveland State's Workforce Development Department serves as the official program sponsor.

The program between Whirlpool and Cleveland State began in 2022, the release said. Libbey joins apprentice Patrick Marshall under the supervision of Model Shop Supervisor Wesley Glover. Libbey and Marshall receive financial aid funds through the college for their academic credits. Grant funds from the Tennessee Board of Regents provide funding for textbooks, supplies and fees.
