Georgia jobless rate 3rd highest in U.S.

Georgia ended 2014 with the third highest jobless rate of any state in the country.

The 6.9 percent unemployment rate in the Peach State was surpassed in December only by Mississippi at 7.2 percent and California at 7 percent. Georgia added 108,300 jobs from December 2013 to December 2014. But because the state was harder hit than most from the recesssion, its recovery is taking longer.

Unemployment last month was 6.6 percent in Tennessee and 5.7 percent in Alabama.
