Among 476 job categories tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

1. Office administrative support, including clerks, typists, switchboard operators, 37,390 jobs, average pay of $15.27 an hour.

2. Transportation and material moving, including drivers, material movers, laborers, 23,880 jobs, average pay of $14.43 an hour

3. Factory and production, including assemblers, packers, machine operators, 22,960 jobs, average pay of $15.21 an hour.

4. Sales and related jobs, including retail clerks, real estate agents and cashiers, 21,050, average pay of $15.96 an hour

5. Food preparation, including cooks, wait staff and bartenders, 20,710, average pay of $9.34 an hour.
