The metropolitan areas with the lowest unemployment rates in September are in the farming areas of the Midwest and include:

1. Fargo, N.D., 2.2 percent

2. Ames, Iowa, 2.3 percent

3. Bismarck, N.D., 2.3 percent

4. Lincoln, Neb., 2.3 percent

5. Iowa City, Iowa, 2.5 percent

The jobless rate in September in metropolitan Chattanooga and Cleveland was 5.7 percent and the jobless rate was 6.3 percent in metropolitan Dalton, Ga.
