Tennessee jobless rate unchanged last month despite nationwide drop in unemployment

Unemployment in Tennessee remained unchanged last month at 5.7 percent despite a drop in the U.S. jobless rate.

The Tennessee Labor and Workforce Development estimates unemployment in the Volunteer State is six tenths of a percentage point above the U.S. jobless rate of 5.1 percent in August, which was down from 5.3 percent in July.

Over the past year, Tennessee employers added 52,500 jobs and the unemployment rate decreased from 6.6 percent in August 2014 to 5.7 percent last month. In the same period, the national rate declined from 6.1 percent to 5.1 percent.
