Mohawk Industries announced today it is expanding its vinyl floor operations with a $100 million expansion of its luxury vinyl tile manufacturing facility in Dalton, which company officials say will also create 200 new jobs in the region.

The plant expansion will increase Mohawk's domestic luxury vinyl flooring production capacity at a time when hard surface sales are generally outpacing carpet.

The expanded Dalton luxury vinyl flooring plant will make products for commercial and residential customers.

Mohawk is the world's largest floor covering manufacturer, and currently employs more than 34,000 people worldwide, and more than 10,000 people in Georgia. Mohawk is headquartered in Calhoun, Ga.
