Two years after its opening in downtown Chattanooga, World of Beer's only Tennessee location shut down over the weekend.

The craft beer tavern at 412 Market St. closed Sunday. A sign on the door of the 6,000-square-foot store said World of Beer "has closed for business" and the note said "Thank you to all of our loyal guests."

But amid numerous other bars and restaurants in downtown Chattanooga, World of Beer apparently didn't attract enough loyal customers.

World of Beer (WOB), which began in Tampa, Fla., in 2007, now has more than 75 locations in 21 states.

WOB in Chattanooga opened in the former Qdoba Mexican Grill on Aug. 29, 2014. World of Beer locations feature more than 500 bottled beers and more than 50 beers on tap from around the world. The tavern also features a full menu and live music.

But the luncheon and dinner crowds appeared to be inadequate to support the business in Chattanooga, especially with several well-known franchise brands within a block or two of WOB, including Chili's, Applebee's, Taco Mac, Big River Grille & Brewing, Sticky Fingers and Panera Bread.
