Volkswagen said it is recalling 680,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to problems with Takata Corp. air bags, according to Reuters.

The move comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last month projected that the number of vehicles recalled to repair Takata air bags would expand by about 5 million to 24 million.

On Tuesday, Daimler AG said it would take a charge on 2015 earnings for the recall of about 840,000 vehicles in the U.S., due to potentially defective airbag models from manufacturer Takata.
