State Farm raises minimum wage to $15.50, to hire 1,500 workers in metro Atlanta

State Farm announced today it has increased the minimum starting wage to $15.50 per hour for new hires and existing employees who previously fell below that threshold.

The insurer said starting pay for some entry-level careers is being increased $2.59 an hour to $15.50.

State Farm also announced it will hire up to 1,500 employees in the metro Atlanta area in 2016.

"We're seeking applicants for full and part-time positions in customer service, claims and sales, but we'll also be recruiting for IT and other departments, and some positions requiring bilingual skills" State Farm Spokesman Justin Tomczak said.

State Farm is the No. 1 insurer of cars, homes and individual life policies in the nation.
