Wal-Mart will open its sixth Neighborhood Market store in the Chattanooga region today at 7:30 a.m. when officials cut the ribbon on a new 41,000-square-foot store at 4110 Shallowford Road.

The grocery-only store, similar to other such outlets Wal-Mart has built in Hixson, Middle Valley, East Ridge, Fort Oglethorpe and Dalton, Ga., will employ 95 workers. The newest Neighborhood Market will be managed by Silke Wohlrab and combine what Wal-Mart brags are the low prices of a Wal-Mart superstore with the neighborhood convenience of a grocery and pharmacy store, along with a gas station, that is less than one fourth the size of Wal-Mart superstores in the region.

Today's grand opening ceremony of the Shallowford Road Neighborhood Market will include remarks from Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger, Chattanooga Deputy Administrator of Economic Development Nick Wilkinson and a Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce representative. Today's festivities include free samples from vendors.
