Morgan Construction Co. has been awarded a contract to build its 100th Aldi supermarket in Conway, S.C.

The Chattanooga-based construction firm is currently building nine Aldi stores in North and South Carolina. Morgan already has built Aldi stores in eight Southeastern states over the past 15 years, including most of the Aldi stores erected in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia over the past decade.

Aldi has nearly 1,600 U.S. stores in 35 states and more than 10,000 stores globally in 18 countries. The German-based Aldi awards work one project at a time, officials said.

"We think that speaks volumes of our ability to not only to be price-competitive but consistently exceed our customers' expectations," said Jeff Morgan, the president of the Chattanooga contractor he started in 1983.

Over the past 34 years, Morgan Construction has built projects ranging in size from $1 million to $60 million across the Southeast. The construction firm has built a variety of office, housing, education, warehousing, health care and retail buildings, including 200 grocery store buildings for not only Aldi but also Kroger, Publix, Bi-Lo, Winn-Dixie, Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Houchins.

Aldi operates stores in the Chattanooga area in Hixson, East Brainerd, Fort Oglethorpe and Ooltewah.

"We owe the success of our business to our employees, many of who have been with us for decades," Morgan said. "The top five leaders in the company represent over 145 years of combined employment at Morgan Construction."

Morgan also said his firm has been building for some clients since the 1980s and 1990s.

"Those relationships span multiple decades and we owe our ability to survive tough economic cycles to them," he said.
