Crews worked Monday, Nov. 20, to replace storage tanks at the American Colloid Mineral Co. plant at 3406 Alton Park Blvd. in South Chattanooga.

The plant, which was built in 1969, is getting new storage tanks for its production of bentonite clay, a unique chemical used as a thickener, sealant, binder, lubricant or absorption agent in a variety of substances.

The Chattanooga plant is one of 19 operated by American Colloid in the United States.
