CBL names Curry chief legal officer

CBL & Associates Properties Inc., the Chattanooga-based shopping center firm, has appointed Jeff Curry as its chief legal officer. Curry has been serving as interim chief legal officer for CBL since February 2012 and has served as an external legal adviser to CBL since 1986. In his new role, Curry will oversee all of the company's legal services, including real estate, corporate, securities and tax.

"Jeff has meaningfully contributed to the growth and success of CBL for more than 25 years in his role as external legal adviser," said Stephen Lebovitz, president and chief executive officer. "Over these years, Jeff has played an integral role in our acquisition and joint venture activities as well as other major transactions including the company's initial public [stock] offering in 1993."

Prior to joining CBL, Curry was a partner in the national law firm of Husch Blackwell LLP. Curry received his law degree in 1985 from the University of Memphis Law School and received a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in taxation from New York University School of Law in 1986.

Curry also serves as a vice president and a member of the board of directors for Chattanooga Inner City Outreach, Inc., a local non-profit organization, and is a member of the Chattanooga, Tennessee and American bar associations. He and his wife, Donna, reside in Chattanooga.

Jim Laney wins designer award

Chattanooga interior designer Jim Laney was recently honored with the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award for his interior design of a residence in Lake Tahoe.

The highest of this year's 17 awards is presented annually by Tahoe Quarterly for exceptional and innovative design.

The residence was also recognized by Trends Magazine and featured as the January cover story in their New Zealand publication.

Jim is a member of the American Society of Interior Decorators and partner in the Chattanooga-based interior design firm Curtis Laney & Laney, The Design Company Inc.

Odubeko picked for 2012 Fellows

Junaid A. Odubeko, an attorney for Miller & Martin PLLC, has been selected for the 2012 Fellows Program of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, a national organization made up of the legal profession's top general counsels and managing partners.

"[These] classes represent some of the most outstanding talent in the legal profession," said Rick Palmore, LCLD chairman and general counsel for General Mills. "They have been selected by the managing partners and general counsel of the law firms and corporate legal departments that they serve, so it is a particular honor."

Odubeko joins a class of 134 attorneys from around the country for this year's program.

Dupont opens Ooltewah branch

Dupont Community Credit Union has opened another branch at 9227 Lee Highway in Ooltewah.

Dupont Community Credit serves more than 13,000 members in a five-county area in Tennessee and Georgia.

Niemier, Tyson join Vision Group

Chris Niemier has been named director of revenue management and Paul Tyson has been appointed regional director of operations for the Vision Hospitality Group Inc.

Reggie Piercy, director of operations for the Chattanooga-based hotel development and management firm, said the two new executives "bring a wealth of experience and a track record of proven success."

A graduate of Indiana University, Niemier has worked for 13 years in hotel hospitality, including serving as director of sales, general manager and dual general and revenue manager at other hotel companies.

He finished in the top 10 percent in GSS rankings while serving as general manager with Fairfield Inn & Suites. He is an expert in both the Marriott and Hilton revenue management and operating systems and also has extensive experience with IHG and Choice.

A graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, Tyson has worked for 18 years in the hospitality industry. Prior to joining Vision, he served as the lead general manager for the Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Franklin Cool Springs and Hampton Inn Nashville and Brentwood properties.

He was recognized for the 2008 Hotel Opening of the Year award for Marriott International Courtyard brand and the General Manager of the Year in 2005 and in 2007 with Chartwell Hospitality.

DeMars joins President's Club

Gregory DeMars, senior loan officer for Cornerstone Home Lending, has qualified for the company's 2011 President's Club. This elite group is composed of Cornerstone's premier residential lenders throughout the country who have met the highest in customer service standards and loan production volume. DeMars achieved President's Club honors in the first full year he has been with Cornerstone.

DeMars' performance has played a key role in Cornerstone being named the largest independent mortgage lender in Texas, the 25th largest retail lender in the U.S. and one of the top 30 mortgage companies in the nation.
