Name: Detail Depot
Founder: Chris Wilson
Where: 2179 Chapman Road off Shallowford Road.
Investment: $800,000
Status: Workers already have dynamited the entire lot, which was full of rock, to bring the grade 12 feet down to the level of the road, Wilson said. Workers now are preparing the foundations and ground pads, and have formed detention ponds in front of and behind the property. When the building permit is secured, a new team of workers will arrive to begin erecting the building.
Features: The new 10,000-square-foot building will be lit largely by natural sunlight, Wilson said. That's part of his plan to make his detail shop "green," by using water-based chemicals instead of solvent-based, and providing ample engineering to catch the oil, grease and solvents before they seep into the ground. Wilson says he'll be "the only car detail shop in town that's going to be a one-stop shop," including paint touch-up, interior leather repair, or full body panel replacement.
Capacity: Currently, Wilson can repair up to 400 cars per month, but his capacity will expand up to 600 cars per month when the new building is complete.
Employees: Currently, Wilson employs nine people, and he plans to hire an additional five once the new building is complete.
Contractor: Ty Edwards and Brown Brothers.
