Name: Chattanooga Billiard Club cigar shop addition

Location: 723 Cherry St., the former location of Shapiro's Deli.

Status: Construction is in the initial stages and will be complete before Christmas.

Price: $300,000, not including the purchase of the structure in May 2011.

What's happening now: Workers are removing demolished parts of the building, running electrical wiring and plumbing.

What's next: Workers will install a radiant heating system for climate control, and create an open-air patio so guests can sit outside. To do that, workers will pour a four-inch slab throughout the building, remove the existing storefront and create a new one 10 feet back from the sidewalk.

Features: Much of the focus of the renovation is on creating a much larger space just for cigars, including a new humidor room. While cigars will still be available in the existing club area, the new space will focus on smoking, while the existing space will add dinner service and a selection of fine wines. In the current billiard club space, workers are renovating the stairwell, redoing some framing and adding new exit doors. In the new area, workers will add a stained concrete floor and acoustic ceiling tiles that resemble the classic metal ceiling but will absorb more sound. Future plans call for a new lounge and a private smoking room.
