Life Care names top doctors
Dr. Jonathan Evans has been appointed corporate medical director for Life Care Centers of America, the Cleveland, Tenn.-based nursing home chain.
Evans succeeds Dr. Kenneth Scott, who advances to chief medical officer.
Scott will continue to lead Life Care Physician Services, while Evans will direct the programs, policies and personnel of the clinical services department of Life Care and its support of all facilities.
"These appointments are a natural progression in the development of our on-site physicians' initiative, as well as the continuing emphasis on quality clinical services for Life Care," said Forrest L. Preston, Life Care chairman, who made the appointments. "Dr. Scott has done an exceptional job of recruiting, hiring and overseeing the work of about 50 doctors to date in our centers, and their contributions are exceeding our expectations."
Evans has provided counsel and instruction for Life Care's on-site physician initiative since its inception in 2009. A graduate of the Mayo Medical School, Evans completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Mayo Clinic. He was a staff physician and associate professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic before leaving to pursue a master's in public health degree at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is a former chief of geriatric and palliative medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Hoss joins state oversight board
Chattanooga accountant Henry A. Hoss, 66, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy. The state board is responsible for administering the CPA exam and the licensing of CPAs in Tennessee and setting and enforcing the regulations of the profession. Hoss, an accountant for the past 38 years, is a graduate of Columbia Military Academy and Tennessee Technological University and previously served in the United States Marine Corp as a supply-fiscal officer and three year in the reserves, obtaining the rank of captain. He started Henry A. Hoss & Co. in 1982 and merged the firm in 1993 with Michael Barto & Co. to form Barto, Hoss & Co. P.C.
Hadgu earns designation
Dr. Akberet Hadgu, internal medicine physician at Parkridge Medical Group-Diagnostic Center, has earned a designation as a hypertension specialist from the American Society of Hypertension.
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, affects one in three Americans. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to serious health problems such as heart failure, kidney failure or stroke. As a hypertension specialist, Hadgu has access to the latest clinical research and information about treatment strategies.
"Hypertension is a challenging condition that requires special treatment," she said.
Spinks named executive director
Life Care Center of Copper Basin, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Ducktown, Tenn., has named Aaron Spinks as its new executive director.
"Aaron is focused on excellence and truly cares about the residents he serves," said Mike Pigg, vice president of parent company Life Care Centers of America's Cumberland Region. "His commitment to providing excellent care and a positive environment is demonstrated daily in the facility."
Before coming to Life Care Center of Copper Basin, Spinks worked for Grace Healthcare as an administrator of several buildings, most recently at Raintree Manor in McMinnville, Tenn. Prior to pursuing a career in long-term care, he served in the U.S. Army for five years, including a tour in Iraq.
Spinks earned his bachelor's degree in business administration. He resides in his native town of Cleveland, Tenn.
AVA appoints new staff
Kathryn Dunn has been hired as the major projects manager for the Association for Visual Arts.
The biggest function of the job is as director of the 4 Bridges Arts Festival. She brings a comprehensive background in arts management, project management and marketing to the position.
She has previously worked with local businesses Brewer Media, Shuptrine's Gold Leaf Designs and Chattanooga Kids on the Block.
Along with Dunn, AVA welcomes Lauren Necko as lab monitor of the media lab and clean room photo studio. Necko is knowledgeable in a range of design software and has professional photography experience.
"The organization is in a major growth phase, and we are excited about the experience, the knowledge and the passion both bring to our work in the community," said Anne Willson, AVA executive director.
In addition, AVA promoted current staff members Lauren Goforth and Kayleigh Reeves. Goforth steps into the position of education and exhibitions director.
Reeves will take on the role of the membership and community relations coordinator. Mark Song will handle marketing and design.
Anderson picked as audit manager
Sherri Anderson has been named audit manager at Chattanooga-based accounting firm Johnson, Hickey & Murchison PC.
Anderson, a Chattanooga native, has been on staff at JHM for eight years, specializing in audits and tax accounting. In her former position as audit supervisor, she has serviced a number of clients in the nonprofit and construction industries, including publicly funded entities.
"We are pleased to have Sherri overseeing more of the firm's corporate auditing work," said Dean Krech, audit partner at JHM. "She consistently works hard to deliver quality reports to our clients, and we are proud of her record of service."
Anderson is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
