Project: HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital expansion

Cost: $12.5 million

Location: McCallie and Bailey avenues

New facility: The 27,100-square-foot hospital will include 30 private rooms and 10 semi-private units for a total accommodation of 50 new patients. It is being built on the site of an abandoned diagnostic building, which was last used 15 year ago.

Old facility: The new hospital will replace the current 21,300-square-foot structure, which dates back to 1962.

Purpose: "The addition will allow us to provide high-quality and cost-effective inpatient rehabilitation services in a state-of the-art hospital setting to more patients in the Chattanooga area," said Scott Rowe, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital Chattanooga CEO. "We are on track with groundbreaking and expect to be fully operational by June 2013."

Schedule: The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-2013.

General contractor: M.J. Harris Construction Services LLC of Birmingham, Ala.
