Project: Publix

Owner: Bassam Issa

Location: 635 Paul Huff Parkway, Cleveland, Tenn.

Size: 54,000 square feet

Contractor: Benning Construction Co.

Scope: Cleveland's newest grocery store will be a traditional Publix with a pharmacy, and the building will include energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration. Since the company is headquartered in Florida, every Publix store is built to be wind-resistant, Publix spokeswoman Brenda Reid said. The company signed a 20-year lease at the Mouse Creek Crossing shopping center and expects the market to easily support another grocery store. "We've been in the Chattanooga market for a few years now, and customers were coming from the Cleveland area," Reid said. "So it was an opportunity to be where they are."

Timeline: Construction is well underway. Building a Publix usually takes 10 months start to finish, Reid said. The Cleveland location is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter, although the exact date hasn't been nailed down.

Future: The Cleveland Publix will be followed by a new Publix in North Chattanooga. Publix currently operates stores in Hixson, Ooltewah and East Brainerd. Construction hasn't yet started on the North Market Street location. That store is scheduled to open sometime in 2014.
