Under Construction: Academy Row adds homes to Southside

photo Three new homes are under construction at the corner of west 17th and Long streets next to Battle Academy. The development is called Academy Row.

Project: Academy Row

Contractor: Waters Holland Residential Builders

Location: 30 W. 17th St.

Scope: These three single-family, rear-entry homes on Chattanooga's Southside include a two-car garage, three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. Each home will be made with HardiePlank siding and include a small yard, as well as three porches. The homes feature hardwood floors, fireplaces, tile showers, custom-built cabinets and nine-foot ceilings.

Size: 1,900 to 2,100 feet per house

Price per house: $289,900 to $299,000

Timeline: Academy Row will be finished by the end of the summer, Holland said.

Future: A growing number of families are interested in living in the Southside, Waters Holland co-founder Mitch Holland said. All three homes have already been sold.

"There's not a whole lot of single family living here on the Southside, and there's been a lot of interest, as evidenced by the fact that these homes have been sold already," Holland said. "Folks want to be here. It's a nice, walkable area."

History: The seven-year-old, Chattanooga-based builders specialize in custom homes and have built houses from downtown Chattanooga to south of Knoxville. Holland said they hope to take up additional projects in the Chattanooga region.
