Sherman named at Coke United

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United has chosen John Sherman as senior vice president and chief commercial officer effective Oct. 1.

Sherman will lead the reorganization of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United's legacy operating units, Commercial Leadership, Operational Marketing and Customer and Revenue Management. He will also lead the transition and integration of the recently announced acquisition of new franchise operations in Alabama and Georgia.

"John Sherman's field experience with Coca-Cola United, his deep understanding of our operating model and his passion for our business serve as a solid foundation for leading our commercial operations during a truly transformational and exciting time for our Company and the Coca-Cola System in North America," said Claude Nielsen, chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Most recently he was president of Coca-Cola United/East Region.

Payne promoted at BlueCross

Ron Payne has been promoted to director of information technology risk and compliance for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

Payne is responsible for directing information technology risk and compliance, disaster recovery and business continuity functions at Blue Cross.

"Ron's leadership has been instrumental in developing our business continuity program and infrastructure, which ensures we can continue serving our more than 3 million members," said Michael Lawley, vice-president of technology shared services.

Payne has served Blue Cross for more than 42 years, holding a variety of technical and management positions, including manager of support systems and manager of business continuity. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in many technology system improvement efforts, including the design of BlueCross' data center on Cameron Hill.

New name and partner for accounting firm named

Marilyn Miller, formerly of Pascarella & Miller, PLLC, has formed Miller & McPhail CPAs PLLC with Jason McPhail.

Miller & McPhail CPAs is a full service firm with offices in Athens, Tenn., and Ooltewah. It recently celebrated in both offices with ppen houses.

McPhail, a lifetime resident of southeast Tennessee, received his degree in accounting from Tennessee Wesleyan College. After working in regional and national accounting firms for 13 years, he brings a diverse background to the firm in tax compliance, business consulting, Internal Revenue representation and tax planning.

Miller, a native of Etowah, Tenn., graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College with a degree in accounting. As a practicing CPA, manager and partner for 16 years, she has expertise in tax compliance, tax planning, business consulting, Internal Revenue representation, retirement planning and estate planning.

Wilson joins Miller & Martin

Kyle Wilson has joined Miller & Martin's litigation department as an associate.

"It is a privilege to have Kyle join our firm. His experience will greatly complement the depth of expertise of our Litigation Department," said James Williams, chairman of the litigation department.

Wilson represents and counsels individuals and companies in civil litigation matters.

He graduated magna cum laude from Tulane University School of Law in 2007. After law school, he worked for the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Most recently, he served as law clerk to the U.S. District Court Judge Harry S. Mattice, Jr.
