Waldrop initiated in College of Surgeons

Jimmy L. Waldrop, M.D. FACS, a practitioner at Plastic Surgery Group, Chattanooga's first and largest plastic surgery practice, was initiated into the American College of Surgeons, the largest organization of surgeons in the world. He was among 1,640 initiates from around the globe who became Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) during the convocation ceremony held at the college's 2014 annual Clinical Congress in San Francisco.

Dr. Waldrop is an assistant professor in the department of plastic surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.

Applicants for the American College of Surgeons Fellowship must have completed advanced training in one of the 14 surgical specialties recognized by the college, must possess certification by an American surgical specialty board and must have been in practice for at least one year at the time of his or her application.

Wayne Cropp joins Baker Donelson

Baker Donelson announces the addition of J. Wayne Cropp to the firm's Chattanooga office.

Cropp joins Baker Donelson as counsel and as a member of the firm's Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions group, where he focuses on public policy, economic development and environmental law. He brings unique legal experience with respect to emerging manufacturing technologies and companies and represents clients on a full range of environmental law issues, including new source permitting, environmental enforcement, air and water quality, Superfund, brownfield redevelopment and waste resource issues.

From 1979-90, Cropp served as executive director of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau, where he developed the implementation strategies that put Chattanooga in the national spotlight for its environmental initiatives.

Cropp has served as the president of the Association of Local Air Pollution Control Officials (ALAPCO), now known as the National Association of Clean Air Agencies (NACAA). Cropp also served as chairman of the Chattanooga Technology Summit, of the Tennessee Valley Corridor. For 15 years, he served as chairman of the environment committee for the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association. He is an active member of the Chattanooga, Tennessee and American Bar Associations and served as chairman of the Environmental Law Committee of the Tennessee Bar Association. He was also the recipient of the Air Conservationist of the Year Award from the Tennessee Conservation League in 1986 and was most recently president of the Enterprise Center.

The NAWC brings awareness to issues facing the water industry and the role that private companies play in providing water solution. The Southeast Chapter of NAWC will hold an Infrastructure Summit in Charleston, S.C., on April 29-30. This conference will build upon the momentum of the first Infrastructure Summit that was held in Chattanooga in 2013.

Local Girls Inc. staff win awards

Two staff members at Girls Inc. of Chattanooga and one of the group's high school volunteers were recognized at the Girls Inc. Southeast Region Conference held in Columbus, Ga.

Toccora Johnson, director of elementary age programs, was honored as the Management Professional of the Year.

Madeleine Dougherty, manager of Teen STEM programs was honored as the Program Professional of the Year

Lily Joyner, a senior at CSAS, was recognized with the Individual Youth Volunteer Award.

Nominations for the awards were submitted by the 22 Girls Inc. Region IV affiliates located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.
