Under Construction: Elkins Building get revamp

* Project: Renovation of the Elkins Building and adjacent structure at Broad and Eighth streets.

* Size: The Elkins Building is three stories and 6,000 square feet; adjacent building is two stories and 4,000 square feet.

* Who: Elkins Building owner Wolftever Development includes Matthew and Ethan Wood and John Healy.

* History: The building was erected in 1890 and has housed a variety commercial offices and retail stores through its history. Wolftever Broad LLC bought the building for $350,000 in 2015, according to Hamilton County property records.

* Contractor: MPL Construction Co.

* Plans: Wolftever's office will take space in the building along with Healy & Co., which is Healy's real estate company. Also, Widgets and Stone, a design studio that helps organizations build brands, products, services, environments and experiences, will be ground-floor tenant.

* Scope: Plans are keep the exposed structure's exterior and bring the inside to what it held initially.

* Location: The Elkins Building is in the heart of the city and a lot of development is going up nearby, including the planned reworking of the Chattanooga Bank Building into an Aloft Hotel just across Eighth Street.
