* Project: New semi-trailer plant being built by Vanguard National Trailer Corp. The 365,000-square-foot, $36 million manufacturing plant eventually will employ 400 people and produce 10,000 semi-trailers annually.

* Location: Dade County Industrial Park, Trenton, Ga. The new plant is on a "greenfield" of 250 acres of farmland once owned by former Chattanooga Mayor P.R. "Rudy" Olgiati.

* Vanguard President and CEO: Charlie Mudd.

* Contractor: J.M. Williams Construction of Marietta, Ga.

* Work: The Vanguard jobs in Trenton will pay $10 an hour to start. Workers mainly will bolt and rivet trailers together in the assembly plant. Only a little of the work will involve welding and painting.

* Quote: "We're very excited. We broke ground Sept. 3 of last year, that's when the actual construction began on the site, and we're hoping to be in business, building equipment, in less than a year. That's pretty ambitious, but it looks like we're on track for that," Mudd said.

* Schedule: Aug. 1 is the target date to begin production.

* About the company: Vanguard currently makes semi-trailers at U.S. plants in Monon, Ind., and Moreno Valley, Calif., near Los Angeles. Vanguard is a subsidiary of China International Marine Containers (CIMC), the world's leading manufacturer of "dry" and refrigerated trailer equipment. CIMC operates more than 100 subsidiaries with some 47,000 employees in North America, China, Europe, Asia and Australia.
