WHAT'S NEXT

Construction is to start late this year or early next with completion within 11 months.

More medical offices are headed to the area near Erlanger Hospital East as a Chattanooga development group plans a $16.5 million project.

Fletcher Bright Co. is building a three-story, 60,000-square-foot office building just off of Gunbarrel Road near Ziegler and Joiner roads.

"We're going after medical uses - a surgery center, doctor's offices. Anything that fits that medical model," said Cardon Smith, vice president at Fletcher Bright.

Smith said company officials like the 6-acre location for the structure, to be called Bright Medical Center, situated just across Gunbarrel from Erlanger East.

"It's a growing medical area," he said. "There seems like there's a demand."

Plans are to start construction in late 2018 or early 2019 with an opening 10 to 11 months later, Smith said.

Meanwhile, Erlanger Health System is putting a full-service outpatient cancer center into a new office building for its Gunbarrel Road campus, officials have said.

Erlanger is expected to take up three floors of the four-story, $18 million building on the East campus, officials said earlier.

Stewart Smith, principal for Birmingham developer Johnson Development, said company officials are looking to put physicians' offices on the top floor of the structure. That new 80,000-square-foot office building will be Johnson Development's third on the campus, he said.

Cardon Smith of Fletcher Bright said it has just started leasing for its planned office building.

"We've spoken to quite a few folks," he said.

Smith said that the building, designed by Franklin Architects, will be about a block off of Gunbarrel Road and all the structures in front are single story.

"It will have real good visibility from Gunbarrel," he said. Also, the medical building will have parking on all sides of the facility.
