Earth Fare, an organic grocery chain, has committed to opening in Chattanooga in January.

The store will open in the former Goody's Family Clothing store in the Gunbarrel Pointe shopping center, which is owned by CBL & Associates Properties Inc.

"Earth Fare will bring Chattanooga shoppers a healthy selection of organic and local products as well as the convenience of an in-store cafe," said Katie Reinsmidt, vice president of corporate communications and investor relations for CBL. "Their focus on partnering with the local community for the betterment and growth of the area mirrors our own and we are pleased to welcome them join Gunbarrel Point."

Earth Fare joins The Fresh Market and Greenlife Grocery as organic grocers in Chattanooga. Other area grocers also sell organic foods.

Asheville, N.C.-based Earth Fare sells organic and natural groceries, natural meats, poultry and seafood and natural body care products, according to the company's Web site.

Natural-food grocery stores continue to grow despite the recession, but at a slower rate, said Lorrie Griffith, editor of The Shelby Report, a grocery industry publication.

"A segment of the population is still interested in those products," Ms. Griffith said. "But at the same time, some people don't have the money they did for grocery expenses. It depends on the market and the income level."
