Nissan presents the electric Leaf car at the Tennessee Pavilion on Friday afternoon.

Nissan North America and the Chattanooga Engineers Club put on a sneak preview this afternoon for the Nissan Leaf, a zero-emission, all-electric vehicle expected to go on sale this December.

"I want to see how it goes for distance," Terry Nelson, of Soddy-Daisy, said during the event at the First Tennessee Pavilion. "I'm interested in it because I think fuel is going to go up."

Mr. Nelson, 52, said he now owns a Honda Civic hybrid.

Nissan's director of product planning, Mark Perry, said there will be 2,500 charging stations set up across Tennessee.

"We will decide how many will be in each of the cities in about two months," he said.

Chattanooga will be among the first markets for the hatchback car worldwide.
