Top 5 business expansions of 2010 in North America

The biggest new plants or business expansions in North American last year included:

1 First Quality Tissue, Anderson, S.C. - The $1 billion plant will create 1,000 jobs in a former Shaw Industries facility

2 Ford Motor Co., Louisville, Ky., is spending $600 million to upgrade its auto plant and add 1,800 jobs.

3 Abound Solar in Tipton, Ind., is spending $500 million for a plant to employ 850 workers.

4 Cerner Corp./OnGoal in Kansas City, Kan., is spending $414 million on a project to create up to 4,000 jobs.

5 Electrolux in Memphis will spend $190 million on an appliance plant that will create up to 1,200 jobs.

Amazon's Chattanooga and Bradley County, Tenn., distribution centers got an honorable mention in the annual list. Amazon will spend $164 million and create 1,400 full-time jobs at the new centers.
