The 2013 Porsche Boxster, available for purchase at Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche of Chattanooga, is a completely redesigned and improved iteration of its popular mid-engine roadster.
In past variations, the Boxster was styled after Porsche's iconic 911 with identical front ends and hood. The newest version veers away from its dependence on the 911's styling and instead gets its own makeover, one that is more muscular and defined. The most notable redesigns and improvements come in the form of increased leg room for both driver and passenger and a weight loss of about 70 pounds, according to Jerry Hickey, Porsche sales manager at Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche of Chattanooga.
These improvements are a result of a lengthened wheelbase and pedals that have been moved farther back, as well as the fact that the car's structure is now a mix of aluminum and steel versus the all-steel versions of previous years, Hickey said.
Hickey added that in addition to the diet of aluminum, Porsche has beefed up the newest Boxster's brake horsepower for its base model to 265 bhp, up from 255 in 2012; and 315 bhp in its Smodel, up from 310 in 2012. All of this equates to more effi cient speeds. By cutting weight the Boxster will reach 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and the S-model will reach that same speed in 4.8 seconds, according to Porsche's website.
For a two-seater roadster, packing more than 300 bhp at times, the Boxster will average 30 mpg (highway) in the manual version. Available for purchase at the dealership as of June 28, Hickey said the base model retails for $49,500 and the Smodel starts out at $60,900, "with many choices and new features not previously available in past versions of the Boxster."
