Andraé McGary, Democratic nominee for the District 10 State Senate seat, says he will run a positive, united campaign.

McGary, a Chattanooga City Councilman, released a statement Wednesday congratulating other Democratic contenders for office.

"We turned out many more Democrats this time than in recent primary races, and we are hitting the ground running with a positive campaign focusing on the keystones of our democracy: middle and working class people," he said.

McGary said Democrats at all levels are fighting back against forces attempting to "buy our democracy." He said he'll continue to help create jobs in Nashville and will stick up for middle and working class families, who "are finding themselves foreclosed from the American Dream."

"We are not going to let that continue," McGary said. "The reports of the demise of the Democratic Party in Tennessee, to paraphrase Mark Twain, have been greatly exaggerated. The upcoming Kefauver dinner here in Chattanooga will show a room filled with the spirit to fight back-and win."

McGary faces Republican nominee Todd Gardenhire in the November election.
