Mitch Albom's 'Duck Hunter Shoots Angel' in Spring City

Mitch Albom may be better known for more emotional fare, but the author of "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" and "Tuesdays With Morrie" is also responsible for the comedic play "Duck Hunter Shoots Angel," opening tonight at Tennessee Valley Theatre, 184 W. Jackson Ave., in Spring City.

The production tells the story of two bumbling brothers who have never shot a duck but think they've shot an angel. As they lament their fates in a murky swamp, they are chased by a cynical tabloid journalist and his reluctant photographer, who don't believe any of it until feathers, wings and a tiara are discovered.

The play interweaves a love story, sibling rivalry, tawdry media and cultural stereotypes as the chase to find the angel builds to a crescendo in the swamp. Ultimately, the comedy plays out as a sweet allegory about redemption.

The show is rated PG-13 for language and limited adult content.

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 9. Admission is $8 Fridays and Saturdays, $18 for the Saturday dinner shows.
