'Music Man' in McMinn County

A bit of Athens, Tenn., will transform into River City next week as the McMinn County High School Fine and Performing Arts departments collaborate on "The Music Man."

Set in Iowa in 1912, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical follows the exploits of con man Harold Hill, who has a change of heart when he meets Marian the librarian. Signature numbers include "Seventy-Six Trombones," "Till There Was You" and "(Ya Got) Trouble."

The production also features several elementary students from the county, mostly from Riceville Elementary School, according to MCHS choral director Sarah Dalbey.

Shows will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday and April 27 and at 3 p.m. April 28 in the newly renovated MCHS auditorium, 2215 Congress Parkway South.

Advance tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students or $30 for a family pack of five. Prices at the door will be $8 for adults and $7 for students. To order, call 423-745-4142 or email ticket requests to mchsmusical@gmail.com.
