"Trew's Store" is included in a collection of regional paintings by Chris Ingram on display through Oct. 31 at The Arts Center, 320 N. White St., in Athens, Tenn. An opening reception for "McMinn County en Plein Air" is scheduled 5:30-7 p.m. today. Ingram said the paintings came about after he challenged himself "to break out of the nagging rigidity" that had come to characterize his work, allowing him to paint "a love letter" to the place he calls home. While searching for interesting scenes in rural McMinn County, he often passed over barns and mountains in favor of more intimate and intriguing settings and vistas.
