ArtStart auction at GPS

The Visions fundraiser has for many years included an art component that showcases the work of local and alumnae artists. This year, ArtStart has experienced unprecedented growth, according to organizers, with nearly 100 pieces by more than 50 artists available.

Because of the increase in participation, GPS will host a public art show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby of the school's Frierson Theatre. GPS is at 205 Island Ave.

A second opportunity to purchase the artwork will come on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at a wine and cheese party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Townsend Atelier, 201 W. Main St.

ArtStart sales raise money for a guest artist program that brings professional artists, dancers and musicians to the campus.

The showcase includes sculpture, photography, glass and jewelry, along with oil paintings, watercolors, pastels and acrylics. Participants include Mia Bergeron, Judy Britain, Laura Cleary, Maddin Corey, Thomas L. Cory, Cessna Decosimo, Ellen Franklin, Carylon Killebrew, June Ellen Marsh, Spears McAllester, Jas Milam, Billy Parker, Stan Townsend and Janis Wilkey, as well as other local artists and award-winning GPS student artists and fine arts instructors.
