Artists sought for exhibit - July 24

Townsend Atelier, 201 W. Main St., is seeking artists to apply for a nationwide juried exhibition called "Women Painting Women: (R)evolution 2013." Application deadline is 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 24.

Artists will be notified of acceptance by Wednesday, July 31, and must submit selected works to the Chattanooga gallery by Friday, Aug. 30. The exhibit will be on view in September.

The exhibition is open to all female artists working in any of the following media: oil, acrylic, mixed media, printmaking, watercolor and drawing (no video, photography or sculpture). All works must be completed, original works by the artist and be available for purchase.

The exhibit is intended to promote the visibility of contemporary female artists portraying female subjects in the figurative tradition and to showcase the quality, variety and breadth of women making figurative art in the 21st century.

The project began in 2008 as a blog that has featured the work of more than 320 figurative painters from around the world. The first "Women Painting Women" exhibition was shown in 2010 and featured more than 50 contemporary female artists representing varied career stages, ages and geographic locations.
