Fifty-six artists have donated work for the Artamajig silent auction, the annual fundraiser to benefit the Southern Lit Alliance (formerly the Arts & Education Council).

The event, which begins at 6 tonight, July 25, in Tanner-Hill Gallery, is a celebration of local culinary and visual arts, according to Ann Johnson, alliance spokeswoman.

Each year's event features a theme that the artists interpret. This year's is "Passage." Johnson says their entries range from paintings to photography, jewelry to furniture.

Artist Ann Nichols has participated 10 of the event's 11 years. She says she considers it an honor to be asked.

"Artists can either donate their work or choose to get 50 percent of the final bid. My oil painting is 'Yellow Lily.' It's from my Split Focus series," she says.

Harriet Chipley has participated in Artamajig since its beginning.

"The event is a great fundraiser for an organization that has meant so much to the growth and development of Chattanooga's cultural life over the years," she says in a news release.

Guests will enjoy food from SwissAm Catering paired with wines from Riverside Wine & Spirits. Meats, cheeses and breads will be provided by Link 41, Sequatchie Cove Farm and Niedlov's Breadworks.

Susan Robinson, SouthenLit Alliance director, advises that anyone wishing to attend who hasn't already bought a ticket should call the alliance office today to have tickets held at the door. Tickets, which are $75 apiece, will be sold at the door while supplies last.
