Ballet Tennessee dancers remember VanCura

In performances this weekend at the UTC Fine Arts Center, Ballet Tennessee will offer a tribute in memory of its founding director, Barry VanCura.

"Paquita," which includes award-winning choreography by VanCura, will be performed with separate casts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, 752 Vine St.

The VanCura Ballet Conservatory will present a Primary Division Recital at 2 p.m. Saturday. This performance will include students from the conservatory as well as Ballet Tennessee's outreach centers at Church of the Good Shepherd on Lookout Mountain and Mountain Arts Community Center on Signal Mountain.

The Saturday evening performance is the company's Spring Festival of Dance. Students from the junior division, teen division and professional training program will present works from various genres of dance, such as ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip-hop, as well as three works by VanCura.

Tickets for the Saturday afternoon recital are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, free for children 6 and younger.

Tickets for either evening performance are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for a group rate of 15 or more. The UTC Fine Arts Center is at 752 Vine St.
