River Gallery welcomes a new artist to its ranks with a January show of ceramic compositions by Kimmy Cantrell of College Park, Ga.

His works are defined by a kaleidoscope of color, texture, form and dimension. On his website, Cantrell says visions flow from his soul.

"Landscapes become human forms, and lumps of clay transform into vivid abstract figures," he says.

His works conjure fresh variations on three recurring themes: faces, still lifes and the female anatomy. His use of asymmetry is meant to challenge conventional definitions of beauty.

"I want to show the beauty within flaws," he says. "Imperfections tell stories that are far more compelling than perfection."

An opening reception for Cantrell's show is scheduled Friday, Jan. 6. The exhibition will continue through the end of the month. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday (until 8 p.m. on first Fridays) and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
