Students of Silver Slippers Dance Academy will perform to music from the Broadway version of "The Lion King" when they present "The Lion King Dance Spectacular" this weekend in the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St.

Performances are scheduled at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3. Tickets are $10.

"We have annual recitals, but we have never done a production like this," says Dee Gladden, who owns the dance studio with her husband, Allen Gladden. They have choreographed the production.

The performance is primarily based on the Broadway musical, with a couple of numbers from the animated movie's soundtrack, designed to take audiences into the pride lands to discover an animalistic dance event. Students ages 4 to 12 will be costumed with full face paint as they portray animals and villagers from the well-known story.
