Artistic Civic Theatre opens two-act thriller 'Deathtrap'

Artistic Civic Theatre of Dalton, Ga., will open "Deathtrap," a two-act thriller that ratchets its suspense right up to the final minutes of the play, on Friday, Oct. 20.

Six performances are set at the theater, 907 Gaston St. in Dalton: 8 p.m. Oct. 20-21 and 26-28, 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 22.

"Deathtrap" stars Wes Phinney, Coulter Redding, Jennifer Phinney, Judy Beasley and Richard Bryan.

Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a dry spell that has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds.

A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college. It's a thriller that Sidney recognizes has potential to be a Broadway hit.

Sidney's plan, which he devises with his wife's help, is to offer to collaborate with the student, an idea the younger man quickly accepts. Suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn, with such an abundance of thrills and laughter that audiences will be held enthralled until the final, startling moments.
