Lee Theatre concludes its season with 'Cyrano'

Lee Theatre will conclude its season with "Cyrano," a French romantic comedy written by Edmond Rostand. Performances will take place in the Dixon Center Auditorium on the Lee University campus, 1053 Church St., Cleveland, Tenn.

The play will be presented Friday-Saturday, April 6-7; and Thursday-Saturday, April 12-14, at 7:30 p.m.

The play was translated into English by Michael Hollinger, who wrote the adaptation with Aaron Posner. The American adaptation of the French classic is a timeless tale full of wordplay and swordplay that has been an inspiration to writers and lovers for centuries.

"We've all seen a TV show or movie where someone is trying to win a girl over while someone is coaching them or sending them things to say in an earpiece," said Dan Buck, associate professor of theater and director of the play.

"This is one of the first times that story was told. It has sword fighting, romance and comedy. This particular production uses more contemporary and accessible language. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this play."

Lee Theatre recommends "Cyrano" for ages 8 and up. No babes in arms.

Tickets are $10 adults, $7 children, senior adults and students. Tickets will be available at the box office in the Communication Arts Building Monday to Friday, from 3 to 6 p.m., and one hour before curtain time at the Dixon Center Box Office.
