Margaret Dyer and Kelly Jean Ohl are the featured artists during the month of August at River Gallery, 400 E. Second St.

The two will be honored with a free opening reception on Friday, Aug. 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the gallery.

Dyer has been exhibiting her pastels since 1988, when upon entering her first international exhibition she won Best in Show. After finding success in the fine arts, she left a 15-year career in graphic design to pursue what she felt was a less-stressful and more meaningful lifestyle in painting.

Dyer has studied with Russian portraitist/muralist Roman Chatov, portrait artist Marc Chatov and pastel artist Kate Fetterolf.

After training to be an actress, Ohl fell in love with clay near the end of her undergraduate work. Using familiar household tools and kitchen utensils, she creates texture in her stoneware, earthenware and porcelain pieces.

River Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sundays
