The Sewanee Herbarium is sponsoring "All Things Bright and Beautiful," a community botanical art exhibit at Stirling's Coffeehouse, 241 Georgia Ave., Sewanee, Tenn.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. CST at the coffeehouse. The exhibit will continue through March 21.

The show is the latest in the herbarium's ongoing effort to cultivate connections between people and plants.

"Plants are of great value to us all. We interact with them on a daily, if not hourly, basis and yet we are often blind to their existence around us," says Dr. Jon Evans, Sewanee Herbarium director.

"One of the objectives of the Sewanee Herbarium is to raise awareness of plants among the student body and within the community. In this not-so-green time of year, we hope to awaken [viewers'] enthusiasm for plants by featuring works of art at Stirling's that celebrate the botanical world."

The exhibit encompasses a variety of interpretations of botanical art in a range of media. Works include nature journal entries, cut paper, mixed media, stitchery, drawing and painting. Some of the works will be for sale.
