Chalk one up to the Fort Oglethorpe Thriving Communities team for the new way they thought up to highlight the North Georgia town's history, arts and culture.

An interactive art walk pop-up is set for Sunday, March 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Gilbert-Stephenson Park. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the large picnic pavilion on Honeycutt Walking Trail.

Everybody is invited to join in the fun creating chalk art on the walking trails at the park. Four children's chalk easels have been built for kid-size chalk fun thanks to Home Depot's donation of materials.

Battlefield Bicycles will offer two hour-long community rides at 3 p.m., divided into Casual Riders and Road Bikers.

A more challenging ride of about 11 miles is planned for the Road Bikers through Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. The Casual Riders will also spend time in the battlefield, but their course will less challenging.

Cyclists should wear comfortable clothing, appropriate footwear, bring their bicycle, helmet and water. For more information about the community rides, call Battlefield Bicycles, 706-841-0040.

Meg Mitchell will be the afternoon's featured chalk artist.

A graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial design, she says she has gone through many phases of art in her career; among them, graphic design, hand lettering, calligraphy, engraving and chalk art.

"After a chance meeting with a member of the Georgia Chalk Artist's Guild in 2015, I was introduced to the beautiful world of street painting. I've been to many local festivals and helped organize and facilitate projects around Atlanta. I work full-time as a freelance multimedia artist and I live in Peachtree Corners with my husband, daughter and dog," Mitchell says.
