Sometimes one musical is not enough. So how about five in one?

The Chattanooga State Theater and Music Departments will present "The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)," with music by Eric Rockwell and lyrics by Joanne Bogart, in three performances this weekend, March 29-31.

"The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)" is a clever parody of the musical theater styles of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander and Ebb.

It is structured in five acts, each a short musical parodying - and paying homage to - the style of a musical theater composer or composer/lyricist team. The acts are tied together with the common theme of not being able to pay the rent.

Audience members will enjoy seeing how many of the musical parodies they recognize in the musical. For example, "Oh, What Beautiful Corn" is a knockoff of "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" from "Oklahoma." "Dear Abby" parodies "Hello, Dolly!"

"The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)" is directed by Sherry Landrum, with musical direction by Allan Ledford and keyboards by Michael Huseman. The musical has been choreographed by Lindsay Fussell.

The cast features performers from the music department, the Professional Actor Training Program and the community. They are Stacie Erwin, Destin Henry, Gracie Gilbert, Rebecca Gilmore, Austin Massey, Makayla Pippin, Jordan Pope, Mahaley Reed, Micayla Rowan, Taylor Williams and Terrance Wright.

Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at www.chattanoogastate.edu/theatre. Reservations are not required. Chattanooga State faculty, staff and students will be admitted free with ID.
