GollyWhoppers caters special events

GollyWhoppers Sandwich Shoppe is able to make any event, from an office luncheon to an anniversary celebration, taste delicious.

"For smaller orders, under 25 people, all you have to do is call and order the day before," says Dave Hendrix, who owns GollyWhoppers with his wife, Durene. "Our philosophy is to get everything done quickly and well."

The traditional catering menu at GollyWhoppers features sandwich trays with everything from turkey, ham and chicken salad to tuna fish, roast beef and other cold meats served on the guest's choice of GollyWhoppers' freshly baked breads.

"We don't try to hold the bread longer than a day, so everything tastes fresh," Hendrix says.

Dave and Durene pride themselves on their freshly baked French, cracked wheat, light-seeded rye and pumpernickel breads. Customers can choose their bread along with deli-style meats like smoked turkey, ham, salami, corned beef, roast beef, pastrami and bologna that are sliced daily.

GollyWhoppers has welcomed groups in the restaurant after hours and hosted events for local charities or fundraisers for special causes. One such luncheon raised funds for Shafer Daves, a local boy who needed a kidney transplant.

For all catering trays, the sandwiches are prepared the day they are delivered with loaves of bread fresh from the oven, sliced and topped with the customer's choice of meats and a condiment tray on the side. Guests can also order trays for vegetarians, piled high with fresh greens and sliced vegetables.

To go along with a sandwich tray, Durene says her kitchen staff can prepare various sides like pasta, potato or broccoli salad, baked beans and cole slaw. Fruit platters and vegetable trays are also a tasty side for a meal or convenient finger foods during football parties at home.

For catered events where guests want something beyond a sandwich tray, Golly- Whoppers can step outside its regular menu to make entrées like teriyaki meatballs or barbecue beef brisket. Taco bars, salad bars and potato bars are also extremely popular for events.

"We have a fabulous team right now," says Durene Hendrix, who relies on her well trained staff to work quickly and efficiently when preparing orders for Volkswagen of Chattanooga or EPB. "I'd say we have the best team we've ever had."

For dessert at an event, trays of bites or bars are available with Durene's most popular creations, including Gooey Bars, German Chocolate Bars, Pretzel K and Diddly Doo Wops.

On the regular menu, GollyWhoppers is featuring a new GollyWhoppers Nacho entrée, which is a hearty serving of chips, queso cheese with chili, taco meat or grilled chicken topped with sour cream, tomatoes, salsa, onions, black olives and jalapenos.
