More Than Just Wings Mexi-Wing Restaurant offers traditional Mexican cuisine, American comfort food

Mexi-Wing Restaurant is adding recipes this spring with a traditional twist that has diners breaking from their normal favorites to try something new.

"We added on tacos el pastor - pork meat in the tortillas with cilantro and onions," says Jesus Sanchez, who is co-owner with business partner Octavio Perez. "They are traditional and people like them a lot."

Besides the new traditional- style tacos, Mexi- Wing created a tostada ceviche dish prepared with a tortilla piled high with a variety of seafood, avocado and lime. Another new special is the mojarra frita - a whole fish fried and served with rice, beans and salad for $9.99.

"Everybody loves our wings," Sanchez says. "Even kids love them. Though mild is the best flavor for children."

Wings are served in mild, medium, x-hot, super hot, barbecue, barbecue hot, teriyaki and lemon pepper sauces. All day on Monday guests can order 10 wings and a drink for $7.99. Wings are not the only specially priced offer at Mexi-Wing. Every day, except Sunday, there is a lunch menu available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on which most items are listed at $4.99.

Diners can choose from a variety of low-priced entrées such as a beef burrito, an enchilada and taco combination or a chalupa and enchilada served with rice and beans. Special combination platters are also available, mixing tacos, enchiladas, chili rellenos, tamales and chalupas for under $7.50.

Mexi-Wing offers plenty of vegetarian dishes as well as a variety of salads such as the grilled chicken salad for diners watching their waist lines. A heavier salad available on the menu is the morelia, prepared with a flour tortilla shell filled with layers of rice, lettuce, strips of grilled chicken, beef and shrimp that is covered with grilled onions and mushrooms.

The menu also features California-style burritos, which the owners say are usually too large for most diners to finish in one sitting. The marinara burrito has grilled shrimp, mushrooms, onions, shredded cheese and marinara sauce in a soft shell flour tortilla.

Anyone who doesn't feel like traditional Mexican dishes or an order of wings can choose from the American section of the menu. Included in this list are a halfpound hamburger, jumbo hot dog, grilled cheese and Sloppy Joe along with sides like mozzarella cheese sticks.

"We have a little something for everybody, including American food like a cheeseburger and hamburger - a lot of people come just for those," Perez says. Mexi- Wing offers a retreat in the Cantina, where 21-andolder guests can enjoy a 32-ounce beer while watching their favorite games on the restaurant's televisions. offer Budweiser and Bud Light 32-ounce beers for $2.99," Sanchez says. "We also offer two-for-one margaritas.
