As has become commonplace, local theaters have more on their big screens this week than first-run movies. Here's a rundown of special features. Find out more at www.fathomevents.com.

* Saturday, Dec. 10: The Met: Live in HD presents "L'Amour de Loin (Love From Afar)," 12:55 p.m. at East Ridge 18 and Hamilton Place 8.

One of the most highly praised operas of recent years, Kaija Saariaho's yearning medieval romance premiered at the Salzburg Festival in 2000 and its Metropolitan Opera debut this season. Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki leads the performance, which stars Susanna Phillips as Clémence, Eric Owens as Jaufré and Tamara Mumford as the Pilgrim who carries messages of love between them. The production is presented in French with English subtitles.

During intermission, interviews with cast, crew and production teams will reveal what goes into the staging of an opera. Run time is about three hours.

* Sunday, Dec. 11: TCM Big Screen Classics presents "From Here to Eternity," 2 p.m. at East Ridge 18.

Eye-opening commentary from Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz will give insight into this classic film and how all is not always fair in love and war.

Winner of eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture in 1953, this patriotic narrative is set in 1941. Robert E. Lee Prewitt has requested Army transfer and has ended up at Schofield in Hawaii. His new captain, Dana Holmes, has heard of his boxing prowess and is keen to get him to represent the company. However, "Prew" is adamant that he doesn't box anymore, so Capt. Holmes gets his subordinates to make his life a living hell.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Warden starts seeing the captain's wife, who has a history of seeking external relief from a troubled marriage. Prew's friend Maggio has a few altercations with the sadistic stockade Sgt. "Fatso" Judson, and Prew begins falling in love with social-club employee Lorene. Unbeknownst to anyone, the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor looms in the distance.

Run time is two hours and 10 minutes.

* Monday, Dec. 12: "The Rolling Stones Olé Olé Olé: A Trip Across Latin America," 8 p.m. Majestic 12.

Dubbed a "must-see" by Rolling Stone Magazine, this feature documentary follows the Rolling Stones' tour of early 2016 through 10 Latin American cities as the band attempt to pull off a once-in-a-lifetime open-air concert in Havana, Cuba. Fueled by the revolutionary power of rock 'n' roll, the film chronicles the tour, local culture and unique bond that exists between Latin American people and the Rolling Stones.

The presentation includes an introduction by band members and two full-length performances from their South American Tour. Run time is just over two hours.

* Tuesday, Dec. 13: George Takei's "Allegiance" on Broadway, 7:30 p.m. at East Ridge 18 and Hamilton Place 8.

Straight from its Broadway run and inspired by the true-life experience of its star, George Takei, "Allegiance" is the story of the Kimura family, whose lives are upended when they and 120,000 other Japanese-Americans are forced to leave their homes following the events of Pearl Harbor. Sam Kimura seeks to prove his patriotism by fighting for his country in the war, but his sister, Kei, fiercely protests the government's treatment of her people. "Allegiance" follows the Kimuras as they fight between duty and defiance, custom and change, family bonds and forbidden loves. Takei, who was an internee as a child, stars alongside Tony Award winner Lea Salonga in this epic new musical.

The presentation includes behind-the-scenes footage from Broadway and interviews with the cast and creators. Run time is two and a half hours.

* Wednesday, Dec. 14: Encore of "From Here to Eternity," 7 p.m. at East Ridge 18.
