Audition tapes due for 'From the Top'

"From the Top," a national showcase for young musicians heard weekly on WSMC-FM 90.5, will record a radio broadcast from the Tivoli Theatre on April 26.

As is tradition, the show's producers are looking for local talent to make up a portion of their programming, joining host Christopher O'Riley onstage. The NPR show features performances by the musicians as well as their personal stories.

Chattanooga-area musicians between the ages of 8 and 18 (and not yet enrolled in a college or conservatory) are eligible. Applicants can be soloists, ensembles and even composers. Requirements include a completed application form and audition video (home videos are acceptable).

The submission deadline is Dec. 31.

"We're thrilled about the chance to help Chattanooga musicians audition for a program heard by over 700,000 listeners," said WSMC General Manager Scott Kornblum. "The show is another exciting opportunity for us to share with the community in celebration of our 50th anniversary."

WSMC and Southern Adventist University are sponsors for the show. Tickets go on sale March 12 through the Memorial Auditorium box office.
