Bluegrass bands at Ringgold Depot stage

Two bluegrass bands will take the stage for this month's Sacred Sounds concert tonight in Ringgold, Ga.

The Watkins Family began its musical ministry in the 1970s with the late Don Watkins, a guitarist/vocalist, and his wife, Judy, and grew to include their son, Todd, and daughters Lori and Shanon. Their newest CD, "Heaven's Worth Waiting For," follows their acclaimed project "Darkness Wept." Their sound draws from gospel, bluegrass and country music.

Lorie and Todd share emcee duties and, with Shanon, pass around up to nine instruments onstage. Lorie, a two-time Female Artist of the Year nominee, sings and plays banjo, mandolin and guitar. Todd adds guitar, resonator guitar and bass. Shanon sings leads and harmony and plays bass and fiddle. Judy joins in with harmonies.

Members are Austin Adkins (guitar), Cody Harvey (lead banjo, guitar and vocals), Mike Holloway (bass fiddle and vocals), Colin Mabry (lead vocals and lead guitar), Tyler Martelli (harmonica, mandolin, guitar and vocals) and Will Markham (fiddle and vocals).

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Ringgold Depot, corner of Depot Street and U.S. 41. Randall Franks will emcee. Ticket donation is $5. Proceeds will go to the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund. For details, visit www.shareamericafoundation.org.
