Niemann plays Lake Winnie on Sunday

Jerrod Niemann is back in town for "One More Drinkin' Song," the newest single off his CD, "Judge Jerrod and the Hung Jury."

Fans will recall that Niemann was part of the songwriters showcase, Heartstrings for Hope, in February. Since then, "What Do You Want" became his second Top 15 hit following the smash debut single, "Lover, Lover."

Those songs and others from the 20-track CD will be featured Sunday when Niemann performs two shows at Lake Winnepesaukah's Jukebox Junction.

Niemann wrote or co-wrote 10 of that album's songs. "Drinkin' Song" is a lighthearted groove with a reggae tinge that makes you want to sing along with margarita in hand. All it needs is the ripple of steel drums.

The emotional "What Do You Want" was written from a personal breakup.

"That was the first time I had ever written a song truly from the heart," Niemann said in a news release. "I wasn't trying to write a hit song. I just wanted to get it out of my system. I was missing an ex-girlfriend, and I would just start the process of getting over her and then I'd hear from her. That's how the song came about."

Niemann believes he can be a distinct voice in country music.

"I think there's something unique that I can contribute to the format. If I can make somebody laugh, or get someone who's never listened to country music to come over and check it out, then I've accomplished my goal," he said.
